Third Sector Strategy Group

  • The role of the Third Sector Strategy Group (TSSG) is to support and work alongside FVA to increase the involvement, influence and contribution of the third sector in bringing about the changes needed to create a better, fairer Fife. The TSSG is an independent group and consists of elected representatives from across Fife's third sector and FVA. It works with FVA to strengthen the connections between the third sector and Community Planning - enhancing partnership working, to provide a mandate for those playing a representative role on behalf of the sector and to advocate and campaign on behalf of the sector and to grow the sector's influence and profile.

The Forum acts as a fairly high-level lead group for the sector, covering a range of thematic interests. It provides strategic thinking and direction for partnership issues, directly informing FVA in our role.

The forum meets around 6 or 7 times per year. Members are asked to step out of their organisational roles and be prepared to think more widely about the needs and aspirations of the third sector.

Ninian Stuart of Falkland Centre for Stewardship is currently the Chairperson and Norma Philpott of Citizens Advice and Rights Fife is the Vice Chairperson. FVA's CEO is a member of the TSSG and FVA also provides secretariat support.

We believe a Third Sector Strategy Group strengthens the sector and supports FVA in our role to represent the interests of the sector. The group draws together third sector representatives covering a range of thematic interests, improving the mandate for those playing a representative role. It also helps the sector to take a more proactive stance in relation to Community Planning; rather than responding to the agenda set by our public sector partners and presents opportunities to shape the agenda to a greater extent.

While in Fife the sector is already engaged in partnership working through its place at Fife Partnership and representation in multi-agency partnerships via third/voluntary sector networks, the Third Sector Strategy Group exists to further develop our approach.

For more information about the Strategy Group please contact Corinna Crawford.

Fairer Fife - a Strategy for Fife's Third Sector

The TSSG is leading on the development of a strategic approach for Fife's third sector in ensuring a fairer Fife for all. This is a direct response to a recommendation in the Fairness Matters report produced by the Fairer Fife Commission. We held a number of civic conversations with colleagues from across sectors, developed a draft framework and held a conference in spring 2017. On 30 November 2017 we launched a new Strategy for Fife's Third Sector. Please see the downloads below for more detail:
