  • Reducing Loneliness and Isolation: Launch of Scottish Government consultation

    Created: 18/01/2018
    News/Events Category: General News

Earlier this week, the Minister for Social Security, Jeane Freeman, launched the Scottish Government's draft strategy to tackle social isolation and loneliness for consultation.

The Scottish Government's Equality Unit has planned consultation events up and down the country to engage with people and allow seldom heard voices to contribute. However, they need our help with this. People with lived experience of social isolation or chronic loneliness are pivotal to ensuring our final strategy helps us move towards the vision of a Scotland where individuals and communities are more connected and everyone has the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships regardless of age, status, circumstances or identity.  It would therefore be appreciated if we could circulate this through our networks and, where appropriate, engage with the people using our services on these issues including supporting them to attend an event should they wish to do so.

People can register for the events here:
    Glasgow
    Edinburgh
    Dundee
    Aviemore
    Dumfries
    Oban
    Inverness
    Orkney

The Equality Unit has tried to ensure a good geographic spread of events, but if you think a certain area would benefit from an event, or provide with an insight other areas may not, please let them know.  If you're organising an event and you would like them to publicise it, let them know as they will be providing updates over the course of the consultation.

You can can respond to the consultation via the citizenspace portal (https://consult.gov.scot/equality-unit/connected-scotland).  They have produced a toolkit to help you facilitate your own events should you wish. This is available to download on the citizenspace portal.

The consultation period will close on April 30th.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch by emailing them at [email protected].

You can access the consultation document here.
