  • Inner Forth Landscape Initiative - Rediscovering Valleyfield Estate's 'Lost' Stables: Excavation

    Created: 30/08/2017
    News/Events Category: Community Events

    When: 9.30am-4.00pm, Thursday 07 September 2017
    Where: Valleyfield Woods, Valleyfield
This event is being organised by Inner Forth Landscape Initiative

It is too late to book a place for this particular session, sorry about that.

Within Valleyfield Wood lies the remains of a historic estate landscape, once home to Sir Robert Preston and the only one of its kind in Scotland.

Join IFLI, the Valleyfield Heritage Group and Fife Council on a community-led archaeological project to evaluate the remains of the stables complex which once formed part of the Valleyfield Estate, the only Scottish example of a landscape designed by Humphry Repton.

Under the supervision of professional archaeologists from AOC Archaeology and Fife Council, you can try your hand at:

    • Archaeological excavation
    • Geophysical survey
    • Measured drawing
    • Topographic survey
    • 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry

You don't need to have any prior experience - they'll provide you with all the necessary skills, knowledge and equipment. All you need is sturdy footwear and clothing appropriate for the weather and task.

This event, which takes place over 5 days (7-11 September), will not only allow the local community to have a go at practical archaeological work, but also allow this important piece of local history to be explored and understood.

Further information is available on their website. Booking is essential as places will be limited. If you are interested in getting involved, for all or for part of the project, please get in touch with Kirsty on 01324 831 568 or e-mail [email protected].
