  • Martyn's Law Public Consultation

    Created: 12/02/2024
    News/Events Category: Consultations

The public consultation for Martyn's Law (Terrorism - Protection of Premises - Bill) will introduce improved security and organisational preparedness across the UK by mandating, for the first time, those responsible for certain premises and events (100-799 max) to consider the terrorist risk and how they would respond to an attack.

In advance of the Bill's introduction, the government has launched a further public consultation on an updated approach to the standard tier. This is intended to provide the public, as well as stakeholders, ample opportunity to express their views and ensure that the right balance is struck between enhancing public safety and not overburdening organisations. Once the consultation process has been concluded, the Bill will be introduced as quickly as parliamentary time allows.

    Who can take part?

The consultation is open to the public and is targeted at organisations, business, local and public authorities, and/or individuals who own or operate premises that the proposed Bill would affect. They particularly welcome views from those responsible for the smaller premises which would fall within the Standard Tier, especially those in the community and voluntary sector.

How to take part in the consultation

The consultation will run for six weeks and can be found here Martyn's Law: standard tier consultation - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

The consultation can be completed online or in an alternative format upon request.

The closing date is Monday 18 March 2024.

The response will be published in due course.
