    Rural Skills Scotland will soon start recruiting for the next intake of the popular Grounds for Growth Programme. Rural Skills Scotland was established with a view to provide high quality and professional training for the rural sector. Grounds for Growth is a training programme in rural skills for unemployed people, with support to work placements.

    There are two course areas - Lochore Meadows and Silverburn (Leven).

    The initial information and recruitment sessions take place on Tuesday 26 September 2023 at Rural Skills Scotland, East Lodge, Ravenscraig Park, Kirkcaldy, KY1 2TA. Lochore recruits can attend from 09.30, and Silverburn recruits from 13.00.

    The programme will start on Monday 02 October 2023

    Overview of the programme

    • Course participants will undertake an initial five week introductory programme which will provide training in First Aid, health and safety, manual handling, industry-recognised certificate in Brush Cutting and Strimming;
    • Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in a variety of outdoor based tasks to begin to gain experience;
    • After the initial programme participants will be guaranteed an interview for a 13 week full time waged programme which is paid at the Scottish Living wage level. During this period, participants will be given the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects, building on the skills already gained - whilst learning new skills;
    • During the 13 week waged programme Rural Skills Scotland will offer further support to secure opportunities to work on placements with local employers, helping participants to gain further skills and boost their CVs;
    • Participants will be provided with a bus ticket, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and work four days per week (usually Monday to Thursday).

    To qualify for the programme, applicants must be unemployed. There are currently no age restrictions on the programme.
