Employability

  • Poverty is an issue in many parts of Fife, as it is across Scotland. One of the key ways of alleviating poverty is for people to have and sustain a well-paid job. Helping people to becoming employable, to avoid under-employment and stay in work has to be a priority for all public service agencies in Fife, including the third sector.

    Fife's third sector makes a key contribution to helping people into employment, particularly those that are further away from the job market. The third sector is also an employer in its own right.

    Fife Voluntary Action, as a member of the Opportunities Fife Partnership, has developed work in several key areas to build capacity in the third sector, ensuring it is given the opportunities and support to contribute as fully as possible to improving employability outcomes for the people of Fife.

    If you would like to find out how we can help your organisation please contact us directly - details are at the bottom of this page.

    FVA's employability team produces a bi-annual report which maps third sector employability provision in the area, identifying key challenges and trends to support organisations and strategic partners in the design and planning of future delivery. The reports can be downloaded here:

      - Working for Fife 2013

    We also produce and maintain a comprehensive list of Fife's Employability Services, available to browse online or download (18Mb PDF file).

    In addition to this, the team is involved in a range of activities including:
    Publishing a monthly employability e-bulletin (see the box on the right) which shares local and national news on employability
    Coordinating the quarterly Fife Employability Forum
    Designing and facilitating 'Know Your Network', the annual partnership employability gathering for Fife;
    Supporting people who are interested in volunteering as a stepping stone into employment
    Representing the third sector and contributing to strategic planning on the Opportunities Fife Partnership (OFP) Board, associated OFP Delivery Groups and other relevant partnerships as required;
    Chairing the OFP Health & Disability Delivery Group;
    Providing 1:1 advice sessions to third sector organisations interested in developing or expanding their employability provision in Fife;
    Contributing, as partners, to the third sector consortium of employability providers: Fife Employability and Training Consortium.
    This work is led by our Employability Development Team: Pegs Bailey, Christine Davison and David MacPhail.
