This seminar is aimed at practitioners working across services who would benefit from a basic knowledge of the impact, consequences and barriers to reporting forced marriage. The course will explore the law in relation to forced marriage, practitioner responses and the "One Chance Rule".
This course is suitable for any staff who would like to develop an awareness of the issues surrounding forced marriage. It is particularly suitable for practitioners who work with children, young people and adults at risk and is particularly suitable for new staff, students and as part of induction training.
The aim is to develop a greater understanding of forced marriage as a form of gender based violence/violence against women and, when children are involved, child abuse.
By the end of the training participants will be able to:
discuss the impact, consequences and barriers to reporting forced marriage
understand the legal position in Scotland around forced marriage
develop a range of practical responses which focus on victim safety
know where to seek help and support
