Surplus of potatoes available for charities that provide free food for those in need
Created: 02/03/2021Since most catering facilities in Scotland have been closed due to the current lockdown, there is a huge surplus of food products currently in storage across the country. Tatties Tae Tables is a recently launched volunteer initiative that is trying to support communities and avoid this food going to waste.
The initiative is working to give surplus farm produce, such as potatoes, directly to the charities providing free food for those in need. If a donation of this produce would be of value to your organisation, please complete this form and e-mail it to [email protected]
The potatoes are delivered in 25kg paper bags and are available in large amounts with potentially up to one or two tonnes available to groups. The potatoes are currently stored in Coupar Angus and can be delivered to groups free of charge. However as Tatties Tae Tables is a small volunteer-led initiative, it would be helpful if your organsation could collect the produce from the site personally. Please indicate your capacity to do this in the above form. Groups from a particular area may also benefit from working collaboratively to arrange collection if only requiring small amounts.
Before confirming arrangements, groups or organisations should consider if they have cool, dry and dark storage facilitates available to store potatoes and give consideration to manual handling requirements involved in receiving such donations.
